Rama Kannabiran has been writing fiction for the last six decades. He has published four collections of short stories and a collection of novellas. His stories have been included in several anthologies published in Singapore, Malaysia and Tamil Nadu. He has been a Fellow of the International Writing Programme at the University of Iowa (1988), and his work has received several accolades including the National Book Development Council of Singapore Book Award (1982), Southeast Asian Write Award (1990), Literary Award of the Montblanc (1997), Cultural Medallion Award (1998), Tamizhavel G. Sarangapani Literary Award (2004), Bharathiar-Bharathidasan Literary Award (2007), and Golden Ring Literary Award (2013).
