Urvi Jangam
Urvi Jangam is India’s first blind woman with a PhD (2019) in German Studies. She has a bachelor’s degree in English literature and history (2009) and a master’s in German Studies (2011) from the University of Mumbai. She was a DAAD research scholar (2014-16) at Georg-August University of Göttingen and an independent researcher at the University of Göttingen (2016-19). In 2020, she co-founded a vocational training institute for the blind, visually impaired, and underprivileged youth in Mumbai. Winner of several awards and honours, she writes poetry, non-fiction, and fairy tales and is the youngest and the only Indian member of Blautor, a literary circle of blind and visually impaired German-speaking authors.
